Objectives and Functions
According to the commitments of the state government, the welfare of the minority community and the qualitative improvement of their living standards have been accorded top priority. Through various development schemes, efforts are being made for the economic, social, and educational upliftment of these communities, including education, upliftment of people above poverty line, skill development, and assistance for self-employment. The primary objective of the Minority Department is to provide educational facilities to the minority community, bring about qualitative improvement in their educational standards, and eliminate the social and economic inequalities prevalent in society, in order to bring them at par with other sections of society.
Objectives of the department are:
- The modernization of madrasas/maktabs will be carried out, to impart modern education that includes various modern subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, and Hindi along with traditional teachings. This will ensure that minority students graduating from these institutions are equipped with versatile knowledge and actively participate in every sector and contribute towards development of the nation.
- To emphasise implementation of vocational and computer education to the children studying in madarsa in order to bring them into the mainstream of society, as well as to develop their skills and computer education in madrasas, so that children from minority communities, who receive education from these traditional institutions, can connect with the mainstream of the nation.
- Various schemes have been launched by Uttarakhand Minority Welfare and Waqf Development Corporation Ltd. to generate self-employment and sharpen the skills of people of minority communities. These include subsidised loans, term loans, interest-free loans for higher and vocational education. Besides this, the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme is also being run to make them self-reliant and skilled. The department is fully committed to ensuring that the benefits of government welfare schemes are provided to the needy and the last person in the community, so no one is deprived of these benefits. The department also ensures that the constitutional rights of the people are always protected, even during the planning and implementation of these welfare schemes.
